Columbus row – Portugal to Canary Islands

We know that although rowing an ocean may appeal to you, the time, effort and money required to prepare a boat and then complete an ocean passage is more than you can commit to.

This is why we created the Columbus Row.  Giving you the opportunity to experience an ocean row without having to take months off work.

In 1492, Christopher Columbus set sail from mainland Europe and headed 700 miles south east to the Canary Islands, he then continued across the Atlantic.

525 years later, in October 2017, four adventurous individuals (including an experienced ocean rower as skipper) will row the same 700 miles from Portugal to the Canary Islands covered by Christopher Columbus in the first stage of his journey.  This incredible adventure is expected to take between 10 and 15 days.  The boat, equipment, logistical / weather routing / land support is all provided.  Having an experienced ocean rower on the crew helps to minimise the risk
